The idea of constructing Riyadh Sahara Mall (RSM) developed immediately after a survey of the shopping centers in Riyadh City was constructed.  The results of such survey confirmed the need for

constructing a unique shopping center in a prominent location, where selected agents
of international companies, and distributors of local and overseas products of famous brands can display their items for sale, and national and non-national family members can purchase their requirements and enjoy shopping under one roof.  Having undertaken the relevant feasibility study and taken into consideration the steady growth of the City of Riyadh, it was decided to construct such a mall in King Fahd Quarter, a new posh locality, at the intersection of King Abdul Aziz Road and Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Road on a plot of 50,000 m2 in area.  The constructed area of the main building is 32,500 m2, the mezzanine floor  800 m2, the underground parking place for 1200 cars  9100 m2, and the exterior service buildings 600 m2.  In other words, the project total buildng area is 44,200 m2.  The concept of the Mall's design emphasized on the local architectural style and national prevailing customs and took into account the modern and sophisticated technology.  The Mall comprises 180 shops of various sizes, a 3,000 m2 supermarket, a children's playground, eight restaurants and a cafeteria.  It is provided with excellent decoration and landscaping facilities, such as skylights, fountains, waterfalls and surrounding gardens.
